Bio:

Morthos was born on a farm on the outskirts of Fallcrest to his mother and father Velia and Kerthos. His childhood was simple though filled with work and hardship. He worked the farm as soon as he was able, his father always saying that it would make him strong and help him understand the peasant way of life. When Morthos turned 13, his father began to pour more chores onto him, teaching him to use an axe to chop lumber, as well as putting him in charge of several farmhands hired on during the crop season. Morthos quickly learned how to direct and manage others. When he would ask his father why he was put through so much, he would always repeat the same statement.

Two years later, Morthos was finally able to leave and head into the town of Fallcrest on his own. He found that he was not as well liked by the general population due to his tiefling heritage. Again, Morthos went back to his father to tell him of the things that he was told while in town, and his father said that old hatred sometimes has a hard time dying. “The old Empire of the Tieflings was not always as it should have been and that is why is failed. We could not save it, only survive it,” he said.

Over time, Morthos became friends with Douven Staul who helped him get away from a particularly angry mob of young boys. A rather old man, he never seemed to mind that Morthos was a tiefling and would tell him stories of the past and of the old empire. The stories of heroes and grand quests excited Morthos. He would go home and retell the stories to his father, who dismissed them as fantasy. “Keep your head out of the clouds. Stay in the here and now. Keep learning what I am teaching you,” he said.

Over the next several years, Morthos grew into a man, strong and able minded. He knew the ways of an effective leader and how to defend himself with an axe. As Morthos began to gravitate away from being a farmhand, his father sat him down one last time. “Son, I know you have no desire to remain here and the stories from that old man have filled your head with nonsense. Alas… I will not stop you but I will give you one last piece of wisdom. Stay true to your heart and the hearts of others. You are a natural leader, and you will ultimately have to decide whether their actions are for good or for evil. Learn the lessons from the empire, of our line of rulers and perhaps, one day, you will do better than them.”

With his wisdom imparted, Kerthos gifted his son with a large trunk with his old adventuring gear. Delighted, Morthos thanked his parents and headed back out to Fallcrest to seek his destiny.
